Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Volkswagen Golf is available in several models. The Golf GTI has three variations: the S, SE, and Autobahn. There is only one Golf R. All are four-door hatchbacks. Standard exterior features include heated windshield washer nozzles, LED headlights with low-speed corner illuminating, daytime running lights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Golf R, GTI SE, and GTI Autobahn also have a panoramic sunroof. The Golf GTI lineup is available in six modern exterior colors. Paint options include Atlantic Blue, Kings Red, Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Oryx White, and Moonstone Gray. The Golf R is available in Lapiz Blue, Deep Black, and Pure White.
Engine (Power)
The standard engine for all Golf models is a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engine that produces 273 foot-pounds of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on all trims. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is also available.
Every Golf GTI trim is front-wheel drive. The Golf R has all-wheel drive with drift mode.
Performance
Standard performance features include an anti-lock brake system, hydraulic brake assist, traction control, and electronic stability control. All models have a sport-tuned suspension for unbeatable handling.
The Golf R automatic boasts an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The manual-transmission Golf R is slightly lower at 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Interior
All Golf models feature heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 30-color adjustable ambient lighting. The leather-wrapped, heated, and sport-style steering wheel provides touch access to audio and cruise controls. The 60/40 split-folding rear bench allows you to customize your cabin to your needs.
The Golf GTI Autobahn and Golf R also boast a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and leather upholstery.
Infotainment options include Bluetooth audio streaming, USB ports, a large touchscreen display, app-connect, voice command, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, and onboard navigation are also available.
Safety Features
The Volkswagen Golf is equipped with a plethora of modern safety amenities. All trims have advanced air bags, LATCH child seat anchor points, and a rearview camera system. The standard Intelligent Crash Response System automatically turns off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and turns on the hazard lights after an accident that deploys the air bags. Except for the Golf GTI S, all trims also include keyless access, push-button start, parking steering assist, and a dynamic road sign display.
Standard driver-assist tech includes adaptive cruise control, active blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, lane assist, travel assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, front and rear parking distance control, and automatic post-collision braking.
