Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is available in five trim packages, including SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line. All trims feature roof rails, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. An adaptive LED front-lighting system with all-weather lights, low-speed corner illumination, and daytime running lights is standard on all except for the base SE trim. Other high-end features include a hands-free remote liftgate, heated windshield washer nozzles, a power tilt/slide panoramic sunroof, and heated side mirrors. Owners of the Atlas can choose from a variety of modern paint colors. Exterior paint options include Platinum Gray, Pyrite Silver, Tourmaline Blue, Deep Black, and Pure White.
Engine (Power)
The SE, SE with Technology, and SEL trims feature a 235-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engine that produces 258 pound-feet of torque. The SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line have a 276-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 266 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Engines include Tiptronic mode that allows owners to shift manually. The SE trims are front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive available. All other trims are all-wheel drive only.
Performance
Except for the SE trims, properly-equipped Atlas trims have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive allows you to switch between driving modes by simply turning a dial. Driving modes include snow, on-road, off-road, and off-road custom.
Interior
All trims feature automatic climate control, keyless access, push-button start, and a 115-volt power outlet. Except for the SE model, all trims include heated front seats and ambient lighting. The top-of-the-line SEL Premium R-Line also features heated second-row seats, ventilated front seats, and leather upholstery.
The second row is a 60/40 split-folding bench. The third row is a 50/50 split-folding bench with easy entry. The Atlas provides 21 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to a maximum of 98.6 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded flat. Infotainment options abound in the 2022 Atlas. All trims include a responsive touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, two USB ports, Bluetooth audio streaming, App-Connect, voice command, and onboard navigation. Except for the SE, all trims also include additional second-row USB ports, satellite radio, a Fender premium audio system, and a wireless charging pad.
Safety Features
Every Atlas has anti-lock brakes, brake assist, a suite of advanced air bags, second-row LATCH connectors, and an Intelligent Crash Response System. Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, dynamic road sign display, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a rear-view camera, pedestrian monitoring, and park distance control with maneuver braking. High-end models also include high beam control, travel assist, lane assist, and emergency assist.
